I have a db which someone is trying to open (access 2000 format), however when trying to open it a message pops up saying that the db needs to be repaired or isin't a db file. and it asks me if I want access to repair it. i press OK and it tells me it is an unrecognised db format. I press OK again and it then tells me that it can't be repaired or it isn't an access db file.

Help?

What can I do to repair it?

Any ideas?

Cheers in advance

You may want to do a google search on the subject. 1 way is to see if you can create a new mdb and import the tables and then compact and repair. Check out: as a start. (They don't mention the ODBC repair, however they address the unrecognized database format in that a user may have a different version of access installed on the computer.)

From Microsoft: Using the Microsoft Access ODBC driver, you can repair or compact a Microsoft Access database. This functionality is accessable from the ODBC Control Panel, through the ODBC Microsoft Access Setup dialog box. This repair and compact functionality works correctly for non-password protected databases.

And for password protected:

Let me know the steps you take and I'll keep trying to help.

Cheers, but that was one of the first things that I tried (creating a new one by importing everything) but it still gave me the problem and wouldn't work.

i have got IT to retrieve a copy of the db from the backups now.

Cheers for your response.
