Problem opening Access

I have a problem with an access. As I try to open Access , I receive the message "cannot start your application workgroup information file missing or opened exclusively by another user"?

Why would this be?

Access is installed exclusively on my PC.

Sounds like your db is using Access security and the associated security file ( the workgroup file) is not on your PC. Or if it is on your PC your are not a member of it or are not explicitly referencing it in your shortcut.

Have a look in \windows\system ( or \winnt\system32 ) and try to locate system.mdw.
If it is missing copy it from an other pc that has MS-Access installed
