Hi guys,

Got the following problem :
Just installed a fresh copy on an old proliant DL380 server as a backupmachine for production, and I can't get the tape drive to work.It is a standard 12/24 DAT , and is connected to the integrated compaq smart array controller ( onboard )
At boot time, the controller shows that the tape drive is connected to port 2 and has ID 6.I've tried to configure it trough the mkdev tape command, but I'm not sure about the parameters I have to give up.
As adapter type i've given "clad",lun id=0;adapter id and SCSI Bus id I'm not sure about, because there's another compaq array controller in the machine ( pci ) to which the disks are attached. The onboard controller has 2 ports, the pci only 1. OS = SCO 5.0.6
Which settings should I use for getting this set up properly? At boot time I see %tape, but no adress range beside it...

thx in advance,

RMGBelgium

Start by running "hwconfig -h" to get a list of the existing controller/disk configuration. This might help.
Also, run "mkdev .scsi" and display the current configuration (make no changes there!!!!).
Also, you can run "hw -r pci" to display what the O/S sees for available hardware. Much of that information is informative, but dull and not applicable to your specific needs, but it should show the various SCSI/Raid adapters.

Use the Compaq Smartstart ACU software to see which controller you have. If it is not a 5000 series or better, you would be better served by connecting the tape drive to the onboard AD160 controller. There are several issues with older array controllers which disappear when you use the standard SCSI controller for the tape drive.
