I am trying to install SQL Server 7 desktop evaluation edition on my personal PC (AMD k-6 II 350, 128 mb ram, running Win 98). When installing the the screen eventually shows a pop up box that says "connecting to server" and this is where the program stops responding. I have tried to install several times in a variety of ways (many times reformatting my hard drive and starting from scratch. I have also tried to install over previous botched installs - I don't get the response problem - I can get the server to start up but when I go into the Enterprise manager and click on the server I get assertion errors. I hope someone can help me with this problem. Thanks. Dan

Hi DanSchumacher,<br>
well i also faced somewhat similar problem and found that my copy of SQL Sever was actually a upgrade version and I had to install SQL 6.5 before installing 7.0. Try this, may this will solve your problem also.<br>

Natraj: I actually came up with a solution. I reformatted my hard drive, installed Win 95, then installed SQL Server 7, and after that installed/upgraded to Win 98. I appreciate your time and consideration. Dan
