Hello everyone,

I have a printer instaled in a Nt Workstation, this printer is shared , with full controll to Everyone, but when i trie to instal this printer in my other machins i get no error but the printer is installed in port LPT1, and i cant print, i tried to change the port but i cant't access to the option, even using the administrator account.

Need some help in this issue
Thanks in advance

I take it these computer are on a network together. When you run the printer wizard on the computers needing to map to the shared printer, you will need to select the Network Printer Server option. Then you will need to find the computer name in the list with the shared printer, double-click the computer to open the branch and the click on the printer beneath it. Then follow the rest of the installation istructions.

Hope this helps. Cliff, MCSE/MCSA 2000

Can I just clarify the situation. Local printer attached to NT workstation, shared with Everyone having full access.

From second NT workstation, you installed this shared printer (how did you do this - you say you got no error, but did you get confirmation that it installed (usually asked if you want to print a test page)?

Now you can't print from second machine.

Both Computer with Nt 4 Workstation

I Use the instalation Wizard, select the Network Printer Server option, select the computer in the list , select the printer beneath it. Select as default printer, and i get the information that the printer has been sucefully instaled.
No message to print test page.

When i see the printer properties, the port being used is
LPT1 and not the port \\Computer\Printer
And i cant Acess the add port option i the printer

I tried in one server, and other computers , same thing.

what happens when you try to print to this printer? (Anything - do you get error message?). I've just done the same thing - it set my printer up on LPT1 too (I think because its attached locally - to another machine - rather than being an independent network printer), but it prints ok.

Hi Wolluf

When i trie to print a test page, i get the message, "Test Page failed to print, operation could not be completed".

does printer definitely print from machine its attached to?
could try installing the driver for the printer manually on remote machine (ie, remove printer from remote machine first, then install driver as if local printer, then reinstall network printer).
