Everytime I install a program it will not start up with windows, I mean ones like anti virus and firewalls which should? Anybody any ideas, or a regedit fix?

cheers!

Assuming your OS is XP, otherwise don't go past step 2. You gave us very little information in your post.

0. Install CCleaner and clean out temp files only

1. Download, install and run MalwareByte's Anti-Malware. Remove Selected (everything found) Reboot

2. Run Ccleaner registry cleaner. Back up changes BEFORE fixing. Fix Problems, Reboot.

3. Run the two fixes I put in the following thread - one is a batch file and one is a registry entry. Reboot

4. Run SFC /SCANNOW Reboot

Tell us what happened. If still no luck, post a HijackThis log.

Are these installs completing successfully? What happens when you try to run these programs?

The later comments in this next thread might have some relevance to your problem.

Sometimes malware lists the programs it is preventing from running in this Registry location.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\

The progs install fine and I can start them up from start/programs, but for anti virus etc there are no entries in msconfig, something is stopping them from being registered as run in the registry?

Maybe it's a leftover from an old HIPS program I had installed a while ago!

Also have error 1721 pertaining to trying to uninstall superantispyware!

I think I'll just do the thermal paste on the processor and if that works ok then I'll do a clean install as it's been a few years since i have reinstalled XPSP2.

Cheers solved that one, it is the proxy settings which is blocking malwarebytes from updating, also sorted out superantispyware not uninstalling!
