I get the following error when I try to apply a patch to Solaris 2.6 .
---------------------------------------------------------
"This appears to be an attempt to install the same architecture and version of a package which is already installed. This installation will attempt to overwrite this package.
/myhome/107733-09/SUNWarc/install/checkinstall: /myhome/107733-09/SU
NWarc/install/checkinstall: cannot open "
---------------------------------------------------------

The patch was not installed before as the error claims. The same thing happens if try to install 107733-11, updated version of the above patch. Because of this, I can't install patch 105591-20 which needs the above patch.

I can't figure out what is going on. Could somebody please help?

Thanks
Jay

Have you tried pkgrm to 'remove' the 'ghost' package before trying to reinstall?

I have not tried removing any 'ghost' package.
And 'ghost' package does not seem to be installed. Doing a "pkginfo | grep -i ghost" returned nothing.

I am new to Solaris and I am having to deal with Solaris 2.6.
I am unable to debug this problem.

Thanks
Jay

I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear that by 'ghost' I meant the package which pkgadd thinks is already installed, not literally 'ghost'. I guess it's too near Halloween ;-)

:-) Jay, what command are you using to install the patch? (Just sanity checking...)

Annihilannic.
