In any cell in a new or existing spreadsheet, If you add 9+9+9 and hit enter, what you see occur is: 9=9=9 and the cell displays 'FALSE' instead of 27 which is what we generally are accustomed to seeing in Excel.

Thanks for any assistance you can offer. We did try changing transition formula entry to being checked since it was not checked, but that did not help the situation.

Thanks, Christa

Also, (a carry over from Lotus I think) you can type +9+9+9. Even though the = is the official start of a formula, the + works in a lot of instances.

Neither one is working, unfortunately. Both = and + work on all the other Excel systems but not on this one professional's computer. The cell just displas FALSE when we use the = first. We get an error when we type the + like you could do back in Lotus123. I sent her my file that was working perfectly and she opened it. She could not use the = or + in the cells. HELP!!!

Are you putting "=" between the 9s or "+"? Because if you are putting =9=9=9 or +9=9=9 it will return FALSE, but =9+9+9 or +9+9+9 should return 27. (Your first post said =9=9=9.)

In the cell I type =9+9+9+9 and then hit enter.
As I am typing the + signs between the nines I can see them 'changing before my eyes' to equals signs. So obviously when I hit enter the cell displays FALSE. It is false. What parameter can I alter to stop the + signs from changing as I type them. This occurs only on this one computer. I was assuming settings in her Excel are responsible as we exchanged 'files' and the problem did not move with the file. Her file is fine on my PC. No = or + sign troubles.

thanks, Christa

My first post said what I meant what I type and what I see are not the same thing. There are no + signs between the nines until Excel 'flips' them to =, that is.

Is there an autocorrect entry to change + to =.

That's a good question!
