I have a cnet modem model cn561rv(b) that is giving me problems.

I have downloaded
1)the offical drivers from the cnet site.
2) got the manual for the modem
3) installed the modem per manual instructions
4) started the computer
5) when ask for driver pointed to folder holding INF CAT file.
6) computer accepts file and loads the files
and says installation completed.
7) go to Control setting check for modem
8) modem is listed and no conflicts are listed.

Exit to dail up setting try and setup a new number. NO MODEM CAN BE FOUND.

Ok this is where I am, I have taken the modem out cleared the Control panel and tried reinstalling but still no modem.

Any ideas as to what might be wrong here?

Hi,

Try this:

Uninstall the drivers and if necessary delete the modem from the Device Manager.

Move the modem from its current PCI slot to another and attempt reinstallation.

I've experienced similar problems with modems and network cards over the years and sometimes this method works.

Failing that; another modem.

If you post again please would you detail which version of Windows (if your not a Penguin fancier) you are running.

Regards,

Sorry OS is Win98 for now

Yes I also forgot to say that I had tried moving it to another slot same thing. Listed but not reconsider. Interesting that I also had problems with a network card and did the same thing so I tried it with modem. However this time it did not work.

O well if I don't get any other responds to try I guess I will have to try another modem. I hate these damn soft modems.

Control Panel/Modems/properties - I think it's under the "Server" tab. (Memory fading). Look for the drop down to "choose modem. What happens is that even when you remove the old modem, remove all references to the old modem, DUN still looks to use it. Of course you get "modem not found", because it's not there!
