I am attempting to connect a Novell Netware Server (version 5) with a Windows 2000 Server. I am able to see the Novell drives (and access files) with the W2k server, but I can’t see the W2k server when I am at a Novell workstation. When I go into Novell mapping, I can see the W2k server (called admin). The W2k server was set up as a workstation, not a domain. I am a rookie at Networking, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Could this possibly have anything to do with NTFS formatted drives?

What is it that you are trying to "connect" between these two servers? Or are you just trying to use resources from both? If it's trying to use resources from both, then you will need to do one of a few things.

1. Load both the Netware Client32 and Microsoft Client for Microsoft Networks on each pc and use a login script to map and gain access to resources. You can load Edirectory on the Win2k box and gain better control of users access rights on that server. (favorite)

2. Use Gateway Services for Novell on the Win2K server. This lets the Win2K server attach to the NetWare box and share Novell's drives as Microsoft Shares. (not my favorite, I am personally not a fan of the gateway. Just too many bad experiences with it)

3. Big Money - Implement DirXML which gives you seamless integration between your NDS and Active Directory system. (overkill - especially if you don't need AD)

I know there are other ways to do this, but if you can let me know what it is you are trying to do, I can probably be a little more specific.
