Please help!

All of the sudden, the zip drive stopped working. I looked in Device Manager and noticed that the Iomega Parallel Port Interface under "SCSI Adapters" had a yellow mark saying " This device is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed".

I removed it and reinstalled it but same error.
I removed the software and reinstalled but same error.
I uninstalled all the printers and changed the Parallel setting in the BIOS to Bidirectional but same error.
I then installed it on my other laptop and it worked.
It's got to be something related to software but I just can't figure it out. Thanks for your help. Janny

It sounds like a hardware conflict. Try changing the IRQ for another device (like a sound card, modem, etc.) which may be using the same IRQ.

Also, did you install some other device just before it quit?

remove it adn the parallel port, reboot and cripple the parallel port in hardware, let it boot up with neither, then shutdown and enable the parallel port in hardware and let it reboot and add the parallel port. Probably will find it correctly. Ed Fair

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.

Thanks for your response.

I reinstalled the parallel port but no luck. No IRQ conflicts either.

I looked under "Resources" tab in the LPT1 properties and I noticed that it lists 2 Input/Output Range. Isn't there supposed to be only 1? If so, how do I delete the other one? Janny

Should only be one range. If it is finding 2 it indicates some sort of problem on the m/b. Verify that both go away when you kill the port, then try again. Have never run across this so I won't be any help. You don't have anything else on the machine that has a parallel port, do you? Ed Fair

Tried again but no luck. I don't have anything else on the machine. Thanks for your help. Janny
