Problem Deleting a File

We have several files on server that I can not delete, rename, or move. These file names have one of more of those special characters that you are not supposed to use (ie. > ; etc).

When attempting to delete them I get the message:
"Cannot delete T112-06-3_6>R6: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect"

The illegal syntax in this case is the character > in the filename.

Does anyone know how to rename and/or delete a file like this? Are there any tools out there that would allow me to do this?

Go to the command prompt and run dir /x this will show you the 8.3 filename. Then try deleting the file using that name instead of the longer one ie:-

del plugin~1.tra

I tried what you suggested, but the dir /x command did not generate an 8.3 filename in this case. I did run the command in another directory, and it did work there. I also tried to manually run del T112-0~1.TF2, but it came back with "could not find T112-0~1.TF2".

Not sure, but it might be that the character > is used for redirection.

Any other ideas?
