Hello

An easy one I hope?!

If I copy some text from a source document (Word 2000) that has say Arial font size 10 and paste it into a new Word 2000 document that has Times New Roman size 12 as default, it inherits the new documents font and size ie Times New Roman size 12.

Surely it should keep the same font and size from the source document?

I tried it on one pc and it worked fine...........but not on another!
Checked Tools>options but didnt see anything obvious!

Anyone?

Hi pileyrei,

At a simple level it depends what, if any, formatting, you copy with the text which, to some extent, depends on how the text was formatted in the source document. I started to write a simple sentence but it came out a bit of a mouthful - I hope it makes some kind of sense [smile]

When you copy text from one document to another, Word includes a reference to the style rather than the actual characteristics so when you paste it to a document where the style is differently defined it inherits the characteristics of the local style. If the copied text has explicit formatting over and above the style this will be copied so that if one word in your text is italicised it will still be italicised when pasted even though the font may have changed to reflect the local style. Generally this is what you want.

Enjoy,
Tony
