Hi ... here's the situation:

I am configuring Exchange Server 5.5 with some difficulities connecting to the outside world (all of my intranet emailing works great).

I am using Outlook as the client email tool, and am trying to configure my connection to the outside world with IMS. I have a domain registered and they have the MX records configured, I am using the registered domain to connect in the TCP/IP properties. I am also able to create accounts and connect with those accounts from the client stations.

My problem is when I try to send an email to an outside my local domain address, I get a nondelivery message saying:

The recipient name is not recognized
The MTS-ID of the original message is: c=US;a= p=NRCE;l=BERKNRCE-001117012402Z-4
MSEXCH:MSExchangeMTA:CALNRCE:BERKNRCE

for what it is worth, my domain is berkeleynrce.com

If anyone can help - or thinks they can help with more information I will even UPS you some good beer (or wine if you prefer).

I appreciate any replies ... and please don't email me - I can't get it!

Thanks,
Sam

Ok Sam,
I would like to help. First, I pinged your .com at 207.181.194.80. Is this correct? I was successful on the ping. I then tried to telnet to your email server. No luck to the POP3, IMAP, or the SMTP ports. I cannot see your email server from out here.
In Exch. Under your site, go to servers. On the right side of the screen, rt-click the server.
Look under protocols. Do you have SMTP, POP3 and or IMAP?
You should.

Do you have firewalls or routers, we need to discuss?

Good Luck with this information

You should be able to SEND email. Normally this is via SMTP. Is this how you are set up.

To receive email you need your ISP to point your mx record to your router IP or domain IP.... Or
go to download the POP3 add on and off you go. (Free trial for 30 days)

I have a question about setting up a POP3 on our exchange server 5.5. Everytime i try to enabl the IMS service to reroute incoming SMTP mail(required for POP3) and restart the IMS service it doesn't start. Can't figure out why it wont' start. Is there anything that has to be done as far configuration side on the exchange, besides the ISP doing their thing? If anyone can help that would be great..

Thanks in advance.
