Problem Communicating with Printer

I just installed win xp on my computer and was going to set up a printer that was over a network. It seemed to set up alright with the driver's which might have been old but, when ever I try to print something It comes up with this message "Problem Communicating with Printer" The Printer is a Lexmark x73 and the machine its on is a win98. What could be happening?
