For some time I've had an intermittent problem in that eg I would click on the down arrow at the bottom of the scroll bar on the right hand side of the browser (IE 6.0)or nothing seemed to be happening and I would then press Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys which then displays the Close Program dialog box and usually 'Points Manager (not responding)' would be highlighted.

I then clicked the 'End task' button which then displayed a second dialog box headed 'Points Manager (Not responding)'. I then clicked 'End task' in this second dialog box and the problem would then be cleared.

However, I now have an additional problem:

Either 1. If I click on 'End task' in the 'Close Program' dialog box nothing happens OR
2. If the 'Not responding' dialog box appears, nothing happens if I click the 'End task button.

I did try re-installing the operating system recently (although this was not a complete clean re-install) and this did briefly seem to help before the problem recurred.

Has anyone any other suggestions, apart from a complete clean re-install?

TIA

Richard

I would suspect spyware, but since you ran the Windows setup, I would consider just formatting and doing a clean install.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

Altnet Points Manager (points manager.exe)is part of the Kazaa-crap... With other words: this is spyware. No need to reinstall windows - true, this is an effective solution, but one to avoid if possible imho - just get rid of it through removing it from the Add/Remove Software menu. It shouldn't leave traces in the register (opposed to other spyware that claims to be removable from the Add/Remove Sotware menu) and Kazaa doesn't need the file to run anyway.
(But Kazaa is plain crap, remove it anyway :s))

Peace,

Yellow
