I have had this problem once before, and after a long day, I just ended up reformating the HDD. But, I am sure that there is a way to get this working again. I have checked, and all of the Data is still in place.

Question is:
I boot up. (I am running Win2K Pro).
The Ctrl-Alt-Del screen appears.
I type in Ctrl-Alt-Del.
The screen then just hangs, and in a min, I am right back to the Ctrl-Alt-Del screen.

Does Anyone have Any Ideas how I can fix this???????
I am about out of my head.....

More Info.
10 GB Harddrive
3 Partitons on it.
C: Primay Partition NTFS
D: Extended Partition NTFS
E: Extended Partition. FAT

Any help would be appreciated... Thanks

I still have the same probelm.....

I guess a better way to put the problem is that when you login, it logs you out , and you are brought back to the login screen.

Still need help

Have you tried logging in as a different user or as the Administrator? Does that work? If not reboot and boot into safe mode. Then go to the control panel and add another user. Reboot with this new user name. IF that works, I'd delete your name and add yourself back in. If that doesn't work, again boot into safe mode and do a defrag (u may have to log in as the administrator to do a defrag, depending on the user rights you log in with). After defraging try logging in. IF that doesn't work, I'd think bout doing a reinstall.

pweegar,
Thanks for the advice, I have tried everything in the safe mode, same resault. I can't get in. I have tried repairing the OS that didn't work. What did work, was reinstalling the OS. But not like you would think. half way thru the "install OS" there is a repair choice. when I repaired it with this one, It deleted only the system files and re installed them. Not effecting my documents or other programs that I already had installed on the HDD.

Thanks again,
and I hope that my solution helps others.

Hi Jeffwmg,
heres a solution from a previous tread if this ever happens again....
"
. I used a utility/program called NTFSDOS Professional, which I must say is an absolute winner. It basically allows you to work with NTFS partitions with a dos "emulation". You create two diskettes and I booted with a basic dos diskette, ran the NTFSCHK? whatever program and voila!!!! All my data still intact and the NTOSKRNL.EXE file repaired. I tell you I was so happy I was doing backflips through my living room. "

It repairs the win2k kernal file which controls the boot process.
I know you have it sorted now but still helpful to know..even if late!
