Problem assigning security group to an Audience Rule.

I am having trouble applying rules to SharePoint 2007 audiences based on the "member of" option.

I want the audience to be a member of a particular security group in my Active Directory. After setting the "member of" option though, SharePoint cannot find any of my security groups. When I click on the "browse" icon next to the value field, what appears is a list of my current sharepoint sites, instead of my AD objects.

I am able to access AD normally throughout the rest of the site. Does anyone have any advice on this?
