Hello All,

I am having problems adding additional 2003 Server as 2nd DC. Primary DC is Windows 2000 Server.

The Error message is:

The operation failed because:

The Active Directory Installation Wizard cannot continue because the forest is not prepared for installing Windows Server 2003. Use the Adprep command-line tool to prepare both the forest and the domain. For more info about using the Adprep, see Active Directory Help.

"The version of the Active Directory Schema of the source forest is not compatible with the version of Active Directory on this computer."

Can someone please advice.

Thank you,
M

You need to expand the schema.

Run ADPREP from the WIndows 2003 CD on the Windows 2000 FSMO role holder. (by default the first 2000DC).

ADPREP /FORESTPREP
ADPREP /DOMAINPREP

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

Excellent I runned

ADPREP /FORESTPREP
ADPREP /DOMAINPREP

and it updated sucessfully.

Now I will try to add Windows 2003 Server as an additional Domain Controller so that I can setup our Exchange 2003 Server as our Mail Server.

Thank you,

M

Thank you for your help, our Ms Windows 2003 Server is now a Domain Controller.

It should be okay to install Exchange 2003 Server Standard and make it our Mail Server.

Thank you,
M

You will need to update the Schema in the same way for Exchange.

Setup.exe /FORESTPREP
Setup.exe /DOMAINPREP

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

Hello Again,

Do I need to have IIS, SMTP and POP3 Services installed before installing Exchange 2003?

Please let me know,

M

IIS, ASP.Net, SMTP, NNTP. No POP needed.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark
