Hi,

ive just been given a new server to configure, which is running Windows 2K3. It has Brightstor 11.0 installed.

The problem is the tape library firmware is really old (rev 0233) and i need to update this ASAP. However, when trying to access it thru HP L&TT tools, either:

a) The device reports as being as opened exclusively by another program, and the device is unselectable.

b) If i disable the library in Windows then reboot the server, the device becomes available, but when trying to select it, reports that:

"An error occured while the diagnostic function was started for the selected device".

And i can get no further. The library and drive sit on the same SCSI card, LSI Adapter 320 ULTRA SCSI.

Any ideas?

From what I remember L&TT requires that the OS level drivers are loaded and enabled to be able to update firmware. If there are still problem run the enable/disable devices for RSM in ARCserve device configuration and uncheck the box next to the device and try the operation again - remember to set everything back to how it was after you are done.

Hi,

Tried - didnt work :(

I restarted RSM service, disabled the library as u said. within HP L&TT it did then recognise the library was running a proper driver and was not exclusively opened by something else, but it brought the same

"An error occured while the diagnostic function was started for the selected device".

Can only suggest you contact HP for help - I have not come across this problem, sorry.

By the way ARCserve 11.0 really should be updated to 11.1+ updates.

David,

Wont do it - it took them long enough to allow us to install 11.0...

If its not system assured, it wont go on the network - and that takes these people months... :(

If they install W2K3 SP1 there are going to be problems that are only fixed in the 11.1 updates.

Makes no sense, use a new OS with a backup program from the W2K days.

I know... but these people are impossible to talk to.

Ill take it under appreciation though as i didnt realise that SP1 would be affected.

Thanks!

Yes there are a few problems once W2k3 SP1 is installed. The big one is any backup with the System State selected fails to run. there are other problems but I just don't remember what they are now.
