printing thru dotmatrix printer

i have asked this questions several times, in case of printing in accounts like ledger printing, it runs to 10000 of pages, in this case iam useing DOTMATRIX PRINTERS for the above said, what i need is FAST printing in dotmatrix, if we use to take it from windows the entire printing itself slow, due to graphic, i need it very fast way........... please lot of replies and advices will be helpful... this is most important and urgent.. please help

Have you tried saving the info as a file and then printing from DOS? I haven't printed to a dot matrix for ages, but I'd think it would be pretty simple. You could even create a .Bat file for the DOS process and 'run' if from inside VFP.

Create the printer again by add printer routine but select
the generic text driver for your new printer. It will print
at the old DOS speed. You may have to change the report format to fit the fixed font.

yeah dedmod, @ present now iam doing the same ,but the command excution takes little bit time for type command, i need entire thing to be printed from windows. not from DOS.

regd generic text: suppose for example if i want to print invoice bill, it has so many types of fonts and headings and sub headings, gneric text wont print what we require and what we design ... please this will be most useful if any one have a good idea or suggestion...

But you can't have it both ways. Variable fonts require a graphics printer. Though if your have the sort of dotmatrix printer which can hold a lot of fonts in memory, you might be able to work around that problem. But if you're printing on more than one printer, they'd all need to have all the fonts available.

Here's another suggestion, though not necessarily practical. There are copy machines which are computer aware. You could send the report to one of those and it would print much faster I believe. But of course the cost of such a copier might be prohibitive.
