printing subreports to spool files

Hi - very obscure problem so I am not sure if anyone can help. I am using Crystal v 8.5 for reporting through bespoke software. When I print the Crystal report to the screen it works fine - but when I print it to a spool file -- it just comes up with an error . The report has a subreport within it. I just wondered if subreports caused problems with spool files - or if you have to reimport etc.
