I was wondering if anybody has came across this problem. I have a AIX unix server, oslevel 4.2.1. I have 8 printer connected to a 128 port RAN connection. The printer that have been connected having been running perfect for years, and when people submit any print jobs the first prints are successful and the rest is garbage. I have checked all the ports, changed the cables rs232, checked the baud rates. This also happens when I cat to the ports. I have changed cables, reinstalled the printers, moved the ports around and still getting the same problem. The RAN is under warranty but the manufacturers feels it a software problem, but I am not convinced. Please help!!

Hi,
Have you tried disabking th printer , and having a look at the file the user is sending , check for any weird characters in it . Have you had recent application s/w changes whcih could be sending different codes to printer it it prints lines or some other character?

How big are the prints ?
Have you tried creating a UNIx text file with line numbers
ie. this is line number 1 ..............................
this is line number 2 ..............................
etc ..

do about 10 pages worth , see if it prints out .
what flow control settings have you got on your printer and serial port ( i know you say nothings changed but worth having a look)

just a few suggestions let us know how you get on , or if you've tried them already .
