Hi All,

I m facing a strange problem with my local printer and my network printer. The criteria is I m having windows 2000 printer server with SP2 on it. And when i m installing a printer on my Windows Nt client PC (local printer on LPT1 port). While installing there are no errors . But at the end of installation when tick on print a test page . the test page goes on my network printer which is on windows 2000 server. I have deleted the printer several times from local machine and installed it again but the probelm is coming again and again.whenever i m firing a print out it is going on network printer instead of my local printer. I m selecting the printer i.e. local printer to print on.

Local printer i've installed is EPSON LX300
Network Printer is LAser printe HPLJ 6l

Thanks In advance.

Strange indeed.
What about a script or something? Is it possible your port to be already mapped to your network printer (via a net use of course)?

HI,

I have checked the entries for net use . but no entries found for lpt1 .

The problem is quiet starange. But when i print through my id that is Admin id it works fine. then i added the user in to local admin group . Logged in with user id but not change the print outs are going on network printer and it showing in the queue as "REMOTE DOWNLEVEL DOCUMENT" and prints some ascii characters.

Thanks

Firstly REMOTE DOWNLEVEL DOCUMENT is sometimes caused by a virus ie NIMDA, BUGBEAR, run a virus check on the pc you are installing the printer locally. If not there is another cause with a fix on the microsoft network.

My personal advise would be to uninstall the printer, then log onto the machine locally ie not onto the network using the local administrator account. then add the printer there. Disconnect that PC from the network and then try and print to that printer. Log back onto that computer via the network and then try again...

Hi,

Solved the problem. Actually i deleted all the local as well as NEtwork printers from that PC and deleted All the entries related to the local printer from the registry and deleted entries which are related to lpt1 .Then rebooted the PC installed the printer again. Now printing is fine. no problems

Thanks for all your Help
