Hi all,

I am updating some Quark and Illustrator files from Quark 3.3 to Quark 4.1 and Illustrator 3, 5, and 7 to Illustrator 9.

I notice that when I save Illustrator 9 files I have the option of choosing Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 postscript. All of the files are originally Level 2 postscript. I have been saving the files as Level 2 postscript.

When I import the eps pictures into Quark 4.1 and print...I get the following message.

>>page contains eps pictures with level 2 implementation. OK to continue?<<

I click OK and the document prints fine on my printer.

What does this message mean?

What is the difference between Level 2 and 3 postscript?Should I be saving the new illustrator files in Level 3 postscript? Are more printers using Level 3 or Level 2?

Thank for the enlightenment.

Sue

It will depend on what you printer is in respect to the version of Postscript being used.

Yes the message is down to the version you are saving it as, had the same sort of problem with photoshop files a while ago.

Unless your printer is less than two years old I would work on the bases that it is Postscript level 2. If you can't fix it in 20 minutes call someone who can.

Your printer is either level1 or 2 or 3. Depending on which kind of RIP it has, you should accordingly save the file in that respect becoz QuarkXPress is intelligent enough to determine this settings.
