I am trying to print an Integrated Crystal Report to a networked printer. I click the "use print dialog" box and the box pops up but I am not allowed to select a printer. My system default printer shows up.

If I change the default printer to the networked printer, it just goes to never never land if I also have the use print dialog box checked. If I do not have it checked, it just prints to my system printer.

I want customer service to be able to send the packing documents to the warehouse after order is keyed. The progression pack list version works.

Support has not been able to help.

Thanks
Donna

Delete the files in C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers directory and then add your printers again. Make sure the security is set to allow users to write to that directory as well.

Try printing a test page from that printer, does it work?

Macola said basically the same thing - delete the printer and start over.

This is just not logical to me. I can print from everything with no problems except ICR reports. I can print them, locally, I just cannot change and make it use a networked printer so I can send to another location.

But I guess I will try deleting the printer and setting it up again anyway.

Thanks

Yes, I can print through other appliations...even Progression NON ICR reports. Support finally came up with a solution.
Seems as though the ICR reports will not print to a printer that has a name longer then 30 characters. They said it is a known Windows issue...funny, I didn't need to make it shorter for other apps...but I did change the lenght of the printer name and was successful in printing to a network printer.

So, I guess the answer is to make sure the shared printer name is less than 30 characters.

Thanks for all the input.

Donna,

Now that you mention it, I believe but this is a Macola limitation when using Novell. I would be interested in what Macola tech support says on this.

Macola Tech only shared that it was a windows issue...

The problem is that Macola doesn't store a printer name longer than 30 characters for the ICRs. Progression also has this problem with long printer names. I usually only see a problem with this when you have a user connected through terminal server and they are linked back to a local printer.

The real problem is that Microsoft started allowing larger printer names with an old version of Windows (can't remember the version anymore 95, 98, or NT?) and Macola has never updated their printing model to account for this. Honestly this rarely affects users and I assume this is why it has not been "fixed".

Thanks, Scott.
It makes sense now.
