I've making good B&W documents using PCL macros to "frame" them for 5 years.
Now I have a customer buying a HP LJ 2550LN and he wants to have his docs printed in colors.
I've tried several tests (all of them using the "Simple Color Mode") and the printer insists giving me all results in B&W.

I.E. the printer gives me black results, the paper I'm using is white... :)

Does anyone can help me?

Jim,

Thank you for your prompt response, but why does it works fine with PCL5e documents in B&W?
Are there "selected areas" (color, for instance) of PCL5 not installed in the 2550LN?
If this is true, HP should notify this restriction in the sales folder, and that is not the case.
How can I check this information? Do you have a clue?

Thank you in advance.

The spec sheet on ONLY specifies PCL6 and Postscript 3 emulation. If it supported PCL5, I would think they would spell it out. You'll have to talk to HP support.

A customer bought one a while back, and all the PCL5 forms broke. They printed something, but it wasn't right. A PCL5 printer fixed it.

Jim,

After your first response I started reading a lot about PCL6 and found out it is backward compatible with PCL5e but not with PCL5c, and that's why my old documents were correct in B&W.
Any color specification must be done with PCL6 directives which are completely different in format from PCL5.

The result: I'm studying PCL6 in order to make my new document.

Anyway your reply had been the key to my new researchs...

Thank You....

PCL6 is NOT a superset of PCL5 in any way.

It is NOT backwards compatible with PCL5.

See thread286-1057953 for a brief discussion of differences between PCL5 and PCL6.
