I'm just curious about why/how this is being used. (I've only heard this requirment in a BI tool maybe once before.)
In any case, there's a barcode forum that might help you out some more.

I am using Impromptu to print shop route documents which I want to have barcodes printed of key information such as work order and operation
Hi Peter,
I had this problem a couple of months ago for shop floor setup. The task was to list part number and revision and then show its corresponding bar code equivalent.
You need to get a barcode 'true type font'for the specific barcode standard you require. Search google for some free ones just to demo.
