Printer Setup: Default Properties

I am using Crystal Reports Version 8.0 I save reports with the Default Properties option checked in Printer Setup.

The problem I have found:

When saving a report, if the printer that is set in the Printer Setup window is not the default printer on the PC, the Default Properties option does not get saved. Crystal unchecks it.

If I set that printer as the default printer for the PC, check Default Properties and save the report, then the option is saved.

It is my understanding that the Default Properties check box will allow the report to print according to the printer settings on the PC the report is run from. It shouldn't matter which printer is saved with the report (in the Printer Setup window). Am I correct?

Is this a bug (known or new) with Crystal?

Thank you.

I believe that the printer properties (such as Default) are inherited from the printer configured on the machine running the report, not what you've checked back on the machine while developing.

Crystal is printer based, and it does NOT bring printer properties along with it, another nuisance you'll experience is formatting differences between printers.

Yes, I agree with this completely. However, the properties are only inherited from the printer configured on the machine running the report IF the report was saved with the Default Properties 'checked' in printer setup. The problem I'm experiencing is that Crystal is not saving the Default Properties as 'checked' unless the printer in printer setup, at the time the report was saved, is the default printer on the developing machine.

I don't expect it to bring printer properties along with it, however, I do need it to have the Default Properties 'checked' when the report is saved.

I'm just trying to clarify the problem I am having to find out if it is a bug in Crystal or if I just am misinterpreting how Default Properties work.

We've experienced loads of issues with different print drivers. What we recommend to our clients are those print drivers we have tested with our reports. Thanks.

My understanding is that the 'Default Properties' simply sets the options avaiable under the 'Properties' button back to the printer's default settings.

If you click on the Properties button you can change the output to print quality, colour scheme (B&W or colour), the order the pages come out etc.)

Either you stick with the printer defaults or set your own.

I don't think the tick box does what you want it to do.
