This problem just started...when I print, the ink is smearing and streaking horizontally across the typed sentences. It is not dooing it across all the sentences but a couple in each paragraph. I set the printer up to clean the cartridges and the spools but this has not helped. It is as though there is too much ink and it is leaking out during the printing function. I am discarding the pages that come out like this but now I fear that I am wasting too much ink and paper. It seems only to be doing this in black. Colored printing seems okay. The "Printer Test Page" does not have this problem.
Thanks, Meow.

Have you just started using a new pack of paper? Laser paper is prone to the problem. Ed Fair

Check your printer toolbox and make sure that the proper paper and print intensity is set. HP will allow for different print intensities depending upon the type of paper bining used. Sound like the printer is set to print on coated paper not plain paper.
