Hello everybody,

I have an NT4 server SP6 on which a we have a print queue for a HP deskjet 1120c. A few days ago users reported they were unable to print to it.

We reinstalled the drivers and now every time I try and print a test page the print properties page appears and I get a spoolss.exe error:

"The instruction at 0x04a63ab8 referenced memory at 0x04a63ab8. The memory could not be read"

This is followed by a HPW5DSM.exe error which is the same as above with a differenct hex address: 0x02313ab8

Clearly there is a memory conflict here but no software has been added to the server, it has had three different versions of the driver installed and has been rebooted after each uninstall. There is nothing running in task manager and no processes that appear too unusual.

After these errors appear the spooler service is killed and needs restarting.

All ideas gratefully received!

I would uninstall the driver, install the SP, reboot, and try an older driver. We had a similar problem and that did the trick.

Rgds,

John Judge

If the printer isnt doing any fancy, reinstalled with the 550c generic drivers. They work like a charm.

Thanks guys. I moved the print queue on to a different server and this got rid of the conflict.

However the user had decided to unplug the printer from the network and attach it directly to the back of his PC!!!
