I like to keep a printed version of interesting threads and their responses and I have already over a hundred in a ring binder. I'm using a HP Deskjet in color, but I use way too many cartridges (in canada at over $50.- a piece), so my question is would it be possible to have a choice of a"printable version in black only". That's about my only beef, otherwise I like your site very much, it is very informative and helpful. Thank you for your good work.

Hello,
easy fix
two possibilities
A) check printer property and uncheck color
A)1. even better, I do a lot of printing, if you use HP
and may be another brand? go to property and select fast/save mode, you will print at light speed and with a quite good printing quality level.
B) easier: select the area you are interested in then
right click : copy and paste in a word doc, by doing so you may even get the the whole file sorted out in a folder and apply an alpha index and hyperlink.

PS) since you are programmer I might need some help, please review my 2 posts in Java script, hope I do not bug you.

Thanks

Another option is to select file > save as and save the page as a *.txt file, which can be opened with note/wordpad.

You can edit the page layout and formats and/or delete any unwanted info.

I just right click, select the text I want to print, click on file, print then choose selection

Memo to Keypounder from cgkeller:
Hi Keypounder
Thank you for your answer. I like your solution under B) very much - simple
and fast - and only in black, none of those heavy background colors, which are just eating up ink for nothing.
I do programming in Dbase, but not yet in Java. I also made a computer dictionary (about 115 pages). If you are interested, send me your e-mail address and I shall send you the file (in Word) to you, less than 1.44 MB, free of charge.
I might need your help re. alpha index and hyperlink for my dictionary.

Hello cgkeller,
I will duplicate the post by using my owm e-mail;
however for the board benefits here is the simple task
prior to the following choose the HDD where you want the info to be gathered and create a folder and as many sub-folder as needed, category etc..
one)name your file and sub-file
two)type or paste the long list in MS XL
three)get it alpha org by first selecting the list and click on the A to Z arrow
last)select any of the indexed name rigt click it and seletc
hyperlink or if no right click get it from file or edit
then click on browse for a folder file etc where you will get the whole thing organized, click OK.
"et voila"
you have created yourself a simple and workable environment.
