My goal: Get one piece of LEGAL sized paper to print as a separator page, it doesn't even have to have anything on it..

Anyone here created a custom seperator page for their print jobs?

I've tried a few things to get mine going, but the only documents i can find that relate to creating your own were written for nt4 and I think that's my problem. I'm using Windows 2000 term servs and a windows 2003 print server..

Anyone got any good links or doc's??

I tried a page on M$'s site for help, , but it didn't work or I just didn't do it right..

anyone got any advice? All i want to do is set this seperator page to pull a Legal sized paper as the separator and put the Date/Time, and the Users info on it..

It wouldn't even print a separator page..

I ended up trying to edit the ones M$ provides, but i can't get anywhere with them.. this is the default PCL.sep page that i tryed messing with.. any ideas?

\H1B\L%-12345X@PJL ENTER LANGUAGE=PCL
\L&l3TA
\M\B\S\N\U
\U\LJob : \I
\U\LDate: \D
\U\LTime: \T
\E

REM \H1B\L&l1T\0

Using this page: I've tried changing up the "\L&l3TA" line to get it to print legal, but it's just not working. It keeps pulling a Letter sized piece.

Thanks for any help!

Thanks man, but i've already been referencing that for like three days now..

Even when i use the commands provieded in that doc, it still prints on a letter sized piece of paper. It's like i'm in the wrong language or something. No matter what commands i use, it doesn't change the final result..

Is the printer set to postscript instead...
This is an hp 5500 laser printer? What is the exact model?

I don't believe it's in post scipt mode, but i may be wrong, how can i check?

It's an HP 4200 DTN We've got a total of 5 trays on it.

An evelope feeder
Tray 1/Manual feed
Tray 2 - 150 sheet
Tray 3 - 500 sheet
Tray 4 - 500 sheet

Letter is in Tray 4 and Legal is in Tray 3

\L&l3TA

Looks like you can take away the T ...

\L&l3A

You may have to add an escape character after the /L, I don't know....

dude.. i've tried all that stuff now. Here's the one I just think for sure should of worked:

\&l3A (or &l8H)
\N
\T

That should just tell it to grab a legal size piece of paper (or &l8H for specifing the specific tray) and print the name and time on it.

Somethings just not right here..

I noticed the printer has 2 versions of pcl, have you tried configuring it for the other version yet?

um.. where do you change the version mode it's running in? The only way that i knew was to use a different driver. Either the PCL 5e or the PCL 6.

Looks like the printer automatically swiches between PCL and PS so that makes me feel better..

About the PCL versions. PCL 6 is the optimum driver so i'm gonna stick with that.

I'm getting really frustrated with this stuff. Does HP charge for stuff like that you think?

Have you tried doing the code to select a different tray number instead of doing the page size code? Or sending the code via a dos batch file to see if that would work? Follow the instructions in the manual to do the escape sequence correctly. The other thing you can check is make sure your printer port is configured correctly, maybe it needs to be set to ECP or EPP in the system Bios....

Not sure if you are still having problems or not but we had the same problem where we loaded one tray with a pink paper for our separator pages. We tried specifying the paper type as colored paper in the .sep file with no luck. Ended up being, just like vbrocks said, you actually need to specify the tray that has the legal sheets in it, not the paper size, also remember that after you specify the tray you will need to set the tray back to which ever tray had letter in it at the end of the separator page, otherwise your whole job will print on legal. Hope that helps, Good luck!

The esc sequence for the default PCL.sep is \H1B\L
Thus, for legal page with the command &l3A, it is \H1B\L&l3A

Try this in the pcl.sep file.

\
\H1B\L%-12345X@PJL ENTER LANGUAGE=PCL
\H1B\L&l3A
\M\B\S\N\U
\U\LJob : \I
\U\LDate: \D
\U\LTime: \T
\E
