I seem to have a problem with the ports for printing to network printers.
Basically I have 6 printer on the network one of which is a hp2100 laserjet. It has decided not to work anymore and wont print. When i tried reinstalling it on the server it prints to another printer on the network. I have tried setting up a different machine on the network as a print server and the same result happens.

Is this a problem with the server or with jetdirect card in the printer?

Thanks

Sounds like you might have DHCP turned on for the Jet Direct cards. You should never have DHCP enabled on a jet direct card. (Keep them static, and make a reservation if necessary on the server).

To isolate the problem, power up the printer, leave it off the network. Go to the progamming interface and turn of DLC, DHCP, IPX/SPX (if you're not running novell), and just turn on TCP/IP and program it with a free IP address on your network.

I've seen the problem, this should fix it.

By the way, google for jetadmin or webjetadmin, if you're unfamiliar with the procedure daveyboy stated, its the tool to setup hp jetdirect enabled devices.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

Also, make sure you don't have two printers with the same IP address.
