Hey everyone - Ive read all the threads i can find about this and still have a question...

We have two Win2K Servers that are print servers - one on 192.168.1.x ( named \\GSX) and the other on 192.168.2.x. (named \\PSX)
We want to copy all of the printers from PSX (2.x) over to GSX (1.x) and make that the sole print server for the company. This is the important part: we need to keep the PSX server operational for a while. BTW - everyone on each subnet has full access to all network resources, so there are no permission or sharing conflicts. The PSX printers need to keep their current 2.x IP's, which I dont suppose will be a problem.

So my question is:
If we recreate all of the printers over to the \\GSX (1.x) server, will our PSX (2.x) clients still be able to print before we can remap our users to the new GSX print queue?

The most critical thing is there cannot be a loss of the ability to print while this is migrating. If we have to slowly map people to the GSX printers, thats fine as long as they still print off PSX for the time being.

Thanks for any help - I cant seem to find a definitive answer.

The print migrator does not remove the printer connections from the source, it merely makes a backup copy of printer shares that is then imported onto another server.

Your printing should not be interrupted.

Get the printers set up properly on the new server and when that is done, switch the users to point to that server using a login script.

Refer to my FAQ faq329-5798 for help on the login script.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

Perfect - thats all I needed to know - thanks! BTW - I have a script already, but thanks for your suggestion.
