Print job confusion...

In a Win2KPro network I have installed a local printer on one of the machines (lpt1) and when I try to print to it the job comes out on lpt1 on another machine on the network. That printer is not even listed as a network or shared printer in the printers folder of the first computer. Any idea why?

Are you running printers on a printserver? If so it may be set up to send the print job to the first available printer.

Don't think I'm running a print server - when I check server properties in the printers folder on each machine, listed are the installed printers as I would expect - and the correct printer on lpt1 on the apparently confused machine....

More detail: net use shows that the local printer for lpt 1 is the lpt 1 printer from the other machine...on other network machines with local printers there is no lpt1 printer listed from net use. What is not clear to me is how to get that network printer not to show as lpt1 on the workstation.....
