how can I include the file properties which can be viewed when opening Tools/properties/statistics on an excel spreadsheet

You would need to use VBA. Look for help in VBA under BuiltinDocumentProperties

Thanks xlhelp. We eventually found a way to do it by embedding a Word object in the spreadsheet.
