I recall that there is a hot-key that prints the contents of a window, similar to a print screen, but only grabs the contents of the window including what is not shown on the screen due to scroll bars.

Can anyone recall what the key combination is? If you know it, could you also create a FAQ with the answer?

Thanks,

ALT + Print Screen will copy the current window to the clipboard, then just paste it into an image editor and print it. Marc Creviere

Thanks FilthPig (Marc), that was one hot-key that I was looking for.

But, is there a way to include in the image all of the information that is hidden on screen because of the length of the page?

For example, I have a dialogue box that lists several files and their associated and linked files withing an application. The list is long and spans several pages if I expand all (hit those little plus signs next to the file name). I want to be able to get a printout of the entire expanded list so I can verify the links and write comments.

Using the ALT+Print Screen will keep me from having to modify the image to get rid of everything but the dialogue box; but I'll still have to take several images each time I scroll down the dialogue box list and paste the images together, which is a bit cumbersome.

Thanks for the help.

Were you working on a MAC when you did this? I've never heard of Windows doing what you're describing.

Or - was it in a certain application you were able to do this? It still doesn't make sense..Print Screen is just that: taking a picture only of what is displayed on your screen.

..printing an entire tree is more like CTRL+A (select all), then just doing a regular text-print.

Post back if you find it - if so, it's definitely an undocumented feature, and one i've never heard available to windows users. pbxman

I was reading in a newsgroup a while back on how someone wanted to get a listing of all the directories on their hard drive. The short answer was to use the DOS prompt and send the list to the printer or a text file...
"dir C:\folder > prn:" or
"dir C:\folder > c:\folderlist.txt"

The original poster of the message was looking for a way to see the folder structure in the left side of Windows Explorer. I seem to recall that someone came up with a method to be able to grab the entire graphical data in the left column of Explorer by using a hot-key. I may be mistaken and I no longer remember what newsgroup that post was on to be able to search through google groups.

If nothing else, I may just turn the resolution way up on my screen so more information is displayed in the dialogue box. I can adjust the final picture prior to printing it out so it's legible. I just was hoping for something easy.

Thanks for the help all.
