ip office newbie

Press the intercom(appearence) key then lift the handset, but why do you need this?

This is because of using call appearances.
Use call apprances and a group with those 4 phones.
Then it will do what you want.

I think what tlpter meant to say was:

This is because of using line appearances.
Use call appearances and a hunt group with those 4 phones.

On my part, I've never had a customer who used line appearances on an IP Office who was happy with the results. Some of them left it that way (with line appearances), but they constantly complain about issues, including the one you're having.

Indeed this is because of line appearances.
I cannot even write it down :)

is it possible to create a sticky thread to stay at the top of this forum?

perhaps a title of "line appearance keys are the spawn of Satan do not use!"

I suppose I could create a FAQ but no one ever reads those :-(

Computers are like Air conditioners:-
Both stop working when you open Windows

I think i am going to do a grip request.
Remove the LA's from the ipo and put them in muppet mode only.

You get a star for the "spawn of satan" comment.

another star for ths spawn of satan comment, and a secondary star to tlpeter for "most consistent hatred of line appearances".

Thanks ,but i do not really hate line appearances (although i think i am near) but i can't stand having something and then not use it where it is made for.

You do not buy a Bugatti Veyron and then drive 30 km's per hour on the highway!!!

why should i not use line apperance on multiple phones ?

Because of the issue you now experiencing among others, systems have moved on now, it's only cheap Panasonics and Toshiba's etc that are stuck in the 80/90's these days and the IPO does a poor job of emulating that... and I'm glad :)

because this is the 21st Century and you are a well versed modern and persuasive IPO installer - right?

...meanwhile, in Manager turn off ringing line preference. With idle line preference still on, it will be the first free CA that gets grabbed when you go off hook even if a line is alerting.

Most of my end users from N*/BCM are finally get that they don't need the line key as we just give them the call park ( slot 1,2 ... ) . Now if AVAYA can wake up and deliver the call park across the SCN as lots of our users are asking for it.

I understnad that we can bastardize it via empty hunt / group button but what the heck , it would be very nice for each IPO's to have its own unique park slot , specially SCN is not cheap .

the problem is that customer used to work with their norstar,BCM for 20 year, some customer dont want to use call park.We have a lot of small bussiness in our market.Today i programmed a system with no line apperance and the the lady(customer) almost killed me. I had to reprogram the system with line apperance. is it that bad to have line apperance ? what will not work ? need help please

thank you

I have used line appearances on the IPO very few times (all but the first against my will) and have never not regretted it. One of the few things I will tenatiously argue with a customer over and possibly the only thing I will say "I told you so" for afterwards.

The system is not designed to do line appearances it was just an afterthought. You get odd behavior that even if fixed will likely creep back in several patches later. Things like all the LA's giving half a ring every incoming call despite targeting a VM module.

Park Buttons are fine. Do a live demonstration and be extra patient. I tell them this how any non-basic phone system works. At IBM Global you can't put someone on hold and say "pick up line 4923." That line usually breaks the ice.

If you have too many customers that flat out refuse to get off Line buttons find a simple alternative system to install or just use the Partner Edition.

So, if you have a very small customer, with no dedicated receptionist,or AA, who wants 3 lines ringing and appearing on all sets.... Do you really tell them that they should answer lines in a similar fashion to IBM Global??
I am not trying to be a jerk. But, these small customers don't care if the Avaya IP Office can be set up in very sophisticated ways, for large customers, they just want to put someone on hold, and say Mike, pick up line 3. They don't want to transfer or park calls.

But, I am willing to listen. So, could someone please let me (and others) know what would be your best suggestion is for this type of customer. Sure, hunt group 200 will ring all sets, but they don't want to transfer, as it is too much hassle ( and they don't like being told that their new system is less user friendly than their old system).
When you use park slots, do you put one park slot for each line on each set, instead of line appearances. If someone could explain, I would appreciate it.
By the way, I do use call park frequently, but normally only when there is a decicated receptionist, who parks calls, pages the employee, who then goes to any set and dials short code for unpark call (with slot # in short code)

Put 3 Call Appearances and 3 Park buttons (1, 2, and 3) on each set. Anyone can park a call on any unused park button, it will blink on every set until someone goes to a set an presses the Park button twice to retrieve the call to their own Call button.

An even easier solution is to sell them the IPO Quick or Partner version.
They are designed to be a Key System.
