We currently have three exchange servers running in our company, of which the very first server was setup with the site name details. However we decided to transfer all the mailbox from this server to a new server and re-routed the IMS due to a lack of processing power on the primary server. What we have failed to do is to find a way to make this server redundant as it holds the site org details, and as a result it has to stay operational as the primary exchange server. No e-mail traffic is going through this server.

Today the server failed due to a hardware problem, what we are trying to find out is if their is any problem with this server being down for long time.

Also does anyone know how to transfer the site org details to another server.

Thank you in advance.

The first server in a site has a special role within Exchange and there are important things you need to do before removing this. If at all possible you should try to get the server backup again and then take yourself to the following page at M$ support for info about what to do when you want to remove the first server. Make sure you do everything on this page and then do plenty of testing, both with and without the Exchange services running on the first server, especially with regards to offline address books, public folders and client offline synchronization.
