Primary authortative DNS sever

For some reason when i ran netdiag.exe.. i get this following error..but it still says that DNS test passed

please let me know how to know that my name server is "Primary Authorative" name server

[WARNING] Cannot find a primary authoritative DNS server for the name
'xxxxx.xxxxxx.com.'. [ERROR_TIMEOUT]

I would make sure that you have a NS record in your DNS zone for that server.

Ok..Now i have added the Name Server RR.DNS server seem to be working fine i believe

But now i have a different problem..

From my DNS server..i can ping rest of the world(internet). But now i cannot ping other way round.not even by ip address..any ideas?

Thanks for the response.Here is what is happening.

I newly installed windows2003 AD-integrated with DNS on a host ns1,and i wanted this server as primary name server for domain name xyz.com. with an IP address 66.x.x.100.

After making some changes to the DNS Configuration.i guess i got the DNS working.Right now in my TCP/IP setting ons Ethernet card,i have only one DNS server,and it is 66.x.x.100 and i can surf the internet fine.

But the problem,is my new DNS server cannot be "reached from the outside world" even if we ping using the IP address 66.x.x.100. from anywhere from the internet,its not getting to it.

Please let me know..am i missing something?

What happenes when you do a tracert to the dns server you can't reach. Does it die out at the server, or before? Good luck.b
