customer is going to be installing fiber to replace their pri service for their mics pri. this is on a large campus and the IT center which the data will also be running over is located in the other building.

I need to reroute the pri signal back over a 2000 foot fiber running back to the nortel mics in order to get the pri service re activated. Will I be able to do this or will I have to use an extender to send a signal back to the mics cabinet like I was going to use an extender for the station modules. Or should I just I have a traditional copper cox pri installed separately in the telephone room and stay off the fiber all together

I would say with fiber you should be ok, it's not copper. Is it going thru a CSU? to give you the signal -NI2

I am concerned that I will have to use an additional fiber extender at the far end which is the IT department were the fiber entrance from Cox will be terminated in order to get the PRI signal to the Nortel MICS KSU. These extenders are almost $ 1,000 per pair from what I have seen and then I will have to use more of them to extend the 0x16 MODS to the rest of the campus for the Nortel telephone sets.

Do you have an alternative for the fiber extenders that may not be so expensive?

You should either have them extend the fiber dmarc or just have the copper pri installed where the mics is. Extending fiber over 2000ft could be a costly venture. As far as your MCK extenders go, what are you using for site to site connectivity????

I think your suggestion to locate the PRI on a copper Cox connection is best. The data is the real reason this campus is switching over to fiber to hep the speed for some 300 network devices and wireless.

This is what I have found so far. It costs about 1,000:

Any alternate suggestions for extending the fiber for the 0x16's at a lower cost.

I think I provided that link in another thread. The modular extenders are for one extension and they require an analog line if I'm not mistaken. For multiple extension of sets from site to site you will need the the Gateway Extenders and a connection end to end. How is the data being routed from location to location???

I checked with the manufacturer for that module extender and that will work to extend any nortel module from an o x 16 to ata station adapters. The data is being routed through out the campus via a new fiber network of cabling from building to building.

I would be placing o x 16 modules at the remote locations to provide service to their m 7310 telephone sets

thank you for the link. Have you use this product with nortel before?

I've never used the module extenders but I have used the gateway extenders and they work just fine...You should be good to go then if they only require fiber between locations. Make sure that there aren't any other peripherals needed for connectivity. ie:router

no i haven't. I have a norstar site with a T1 point to point link over fiber using something made by either black box or patton electronics. been a long time, it works.
