Selecting an icon from a folder generates a preview in the left folder frame (when "view as web-page" is selected and preview generation is possible for this type of file.) In my case it works for .gif, .bmp, .html (et.c) but does not work for .jpg files. Is it possible to generate a preview for jpg (WIN 98)?
Thanx.

Hey,

As far as I know, you can't. Try looking at Microsofts site, see if there's an update/patch for it. Steve Hewitt

It might work if you have some software like PhotoImpact.
That generates the previews to the Windows sys folders, and
you should see them in the left hand side of win explorer.
Most imaging software will do this for you. Jay~

I had this problem and fixed it following the procedure below. I had put in some software (Corel) and when I uninstalled it, it stipped out the part of my registry
that allowed a picture preview.

To resolve this issue, verify that the following registry entries exist for the type of file you are trying to preview:

Registry key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\file type\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}

Value: (Default)="{7376D660-C583-11d0-A3A5-00C04FD706EC}"

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it.

The following file types use the registry values listed above: .art .bmp .dib .gif .jfif .jpe .jpeg .jpg .png .wmf For additional informationabout thumbnail previews, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: Q176882 </support/kb/articles/Q176/8/82.ASP> How to Enable Thumbnail View for Folders in Windows Explorer
