Anyone know how to prevent the "getting started" menu from appearing when a new user logs in? I am rolling out Windows 2000 workstations in a Novell environment, using ZENWorks to create the user in the local SAM, then deleting the user after logout. I know it is in the registry somewhere, I just can't find it....thanks!

Try this:

Open Regedt32
Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
On the Edit menu, Add Value. Name it NoWelcomeScreen as a REG_DWORD data type. Set the value to 1 to stop the "Getting started with Windows 2000" screen from appearing.

You can also set this key under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
This will take precedence over the entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

If there are more things (Internet Connection Wizard, etc) that you want to have dealt with already, you can edit a profile the way you want it and copy it over the Default User profile. Marc Creviere
