Is there a 'simple' way to prevent users access to some folders in Win 98 SE.

We want temporarly some dedicated users to have access to some folders...

Thanks

JW

Not with Windows 95/98, you need one of the NT family systems (WinNT, 2000, XP, 2003) to use NTFS permissions.

You can apply permissions to shares, but they don't apply to access at the system console.

Thanks anyway....

OK, if you have a proper Windows server, put the data on the server and lock down the folders there, then use the Client for Microsoft networks on 98SE to login to the network. Access to the data will be restricted to authorised users if configured properly.

I was going to point to some policy settings (depending on how 'tight' security needs to be), and took a look at your link.
very nice and easy for 19.95 - PAndersen....

IMO
If what you want to protect isn't worth 20 bucks, then you don't deserve to have any data [smile]
