Hi all...

Quick question for you all. My company is starting to expand which means my knowledge of routing and routers needs to expand as well. I was hoping you can offer come advice and knowledge.

Is it possible with a cisco router to have a failover line that will automatically kick in when the t1 goes down? Is this difficult to configure? Also, what would you recommend as a failover method for two remotes sites connected to the main router via frame relay?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

For failover or backup just used a ISDN line from site to site, simple to configure on cisco routers,so when the frame comes up again the isdn line will go down.

awesome...thank you...when you say site to site do you mean point to point?

When using ISDN Bri as backup, it is like using a modem line as backup of the frame relay. The only different is the bandwidth of Bri is 128kbps instead of whatever your modem give you. You need to configure the router to dial the ISDN number at the other end. That means you need to have the ISDN line for both sites. When the frame failed, the master router will dial the ISDN number of the slave router to make the backup connection.

There is monthly line charge and usage charge to use ISDN. So, you need to research more before you install the ISDN Bri.

Hope this help!

Thanks for all your help guys...do you know of any good articles on-line where I can find sample configs?
