Dear All,

Laptop computer
Screen res max 1920*1200

When in the office I use it at the max res with 120dpi and extend the desktop over onto another monitor. This gives me plenty of desktop room and detail.

When demonstrating I use it at 1280*1200 with 120 dpi and clone the desktop over onto the second monitor. This makes everything bigger and duplicates the display so that everyone can see.

To switch between the modes easily I have set up two User Accounts with the appropriate settings. This works very well except that when I come back to the high res account the desktop icons get rearranged.

Is there a way to preserve or save/restore their original positions?

TIA

This is a normal outcome of changing resolutions. You might avoid it by using some of the settings available when you right-click on the blank area of the Desktop and adjust the view of icons on the Desktop, such as Auto Arrange, or align to Grid, etc. I'm not in XP at the moment, so I can't check it out, but have a look around that sort of area.

linney,

I have played with most of the options available after a right-click on a blank area of the DeskTop and none seem to help much.

gpalmer711,

I will follow-up your search suggestion.

Thanks Hugh,

TonHu,
