just got this notebook and its set (power) to always on. Just wondering if anyone can tell me what settings are best for running on battery.

and for that matter, i had read something about always on not taking full advantage of the processor while on ac power

can anyone help clear this up for me?

The Standby and Hibernate timeout settings are changed to Never when a user opens Power Management while in Safe mode on computers operating in a Microsoft Windows XP (Home Edition or Professional) or Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional environment.
SCOPE
This issue is not specific to Compaq products. It may occur on any computer operating in a Windows XP (Home Edition or Professional) or Windows 2000 Professional environment.
RESOLUTION
Restart the computer (not in Safe mode) and then reset the timeout properties for Standby and Hibernate in Power Management (Control Panel) to resolve the issue.
To prevent future occurrences of the issue, do not open Power Management while the system is in Safe mode."

As to which is best I cannot answer. Mine is set to Standby.
