Premiere can't find files I know I have!

Premiere is great but whilst I can see soundbites and winamp files in explorer, when I go to open them and use them in a premiere 6 project, they are not all there (only 50 or so of the 250+, for example). They are all the same format (winamp media files): anyone any idea, or how I can pull the files into premiere any other way?
