I have a prefetch folder that I periodically clear out and noticed in the past week that there are no longer any files accumulating in this folder.

The Registry is showing that it is still set to default(3).
Any ideas what may be causing this?

Thanks to anyone offering advice on this one.

The files accumulate over time as Windows tries to optomize startup.

I suspect you are being slightly too aggressive in cleaning out this cache.

Have you tried Microsoft's freeware Bootvis.exe program? This when allowed to analyze and the optomize startup makes a big difference.

Thanks for responding. Actually, I check my prefetch file about once a month, but if I choose to check it sooner, I don't necessarily delete the files. My concern comes from not seeing any files at all in the past 12 days. The prefetch folder is absolutely empty. I find it hard to believe that I wouldn't have at least one file after 12 days. In the past, the prefetch folder accumulated around 100 files each week.

If I'm not being overly aggressive at deleting this file, what else could be causing this file to remain empty for so long. Remember, I have already confirmed that the Registry is showing this folder as set to default.
